Mount Kyaiktiyo Pagoda Golden Rock Myanmar by Cable Car / Truck Price

Golden Rock Kyaiktiyo pagoda

Rock / Kyaikhtiyo. Myanmar offers a variety of uniqueness in the surrounding area. One interesting tourist destination that can be visited on the outskirts of Yangon is a tourist spot called The Golden Rock / Kyaiktiyo.

The location is 220 Km from the city of Yangon. If you want to come to it, we can use a bus or train by stopping in the Bago area which also saves a million charms through several pagodas that are built there.

This Golden Rock tourist attraction is in the Kyaiktiyo mountains. Therefore the area is also known as Kyaiktiyo Pagoda. The name Kyaiktiyo or Kyaikhtiyo itself means 'Pagoda above the head of the ascetic'. Even though it took approximately 5 hours to get there, the panorama of the natural beauty possessed by the Kyaiktiyo mountains will immediately erase the fatigue on the journey.

Before there was a cable car, to reach the Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda, we had to use a truck from the truck terminal, the Kimpun area. In the Kimpun we can eating out first, look for souvenirs, look for lodging or leave our vehicles. The trucks have been modified and there are seats lined up above them. There are stairs to climb onto trucks that are filled with dozens of people. We don't need to wait long because the truck with a capacity of up to 42 people is immediately full (no more than 7 lines x 6 people). To ride the truck, passengers have to pay 3000 kyats if they sit near the driver, and pay 2500 kats enough if they sit on a bench in a truck for one way and my choice is to sit in the back of the truck with local residents, because it is really cool.

The trip to the top of Kyaikhtiyo, which is 11 km away, will be taken in 30-45 minutes. Actually the distance is close, but the truck must stop several times with various purposes. Starting from having to pass a check point where passengers are counted one by one, stopping to collect payment money from passengers, sometimes it also stops only to collect donations from passengers for the purpose of developing a place of worship.

At some point, the truck also had to stop to give an opportunity to other trucks coming from the top to pass. Drivers communicate with each other through handy talkies with road supervisors. This was done to avoid an accident on a hillside lane that was quite vulnerable. Entrance fees of 6000 kyats are required to be paid by foreign tourists, but are free for local people.

And now to reach Golden Rock it's easier because since the end of December 2017 / Beginning in 2018, the cable car to Kyaiktiyo has been operating, for tickets worth 3000 kyats (local residents) and 5 USD for foreigners. And the trip will be faster because it only takes 15 minutes. In total there are 44 cable cars to commute and each cable car can contain only 8 people, departing from Yathetaung to the entrance of the pagoda.
